Following a decision by the Council of Ministers, the Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Commission (CGC) has appointed a new President and Board Members.

Mr. Pieris Chourides has been appointed as the new President of the Commission. The newly formed Board will consist of existing members Andreas Christou (Legal Expert) and Marios Pieris (IT Specialist), along with newly appointed members Kosmas Kosma (Accountant/Auditor), Maya Kleopa (Legal Expert), Heraklis Agathokleous (Legal Expert), and Panikos Stavrou (Deputy Chief of Police). These appointments take immediate effect following the completion of the tenure of outgoing President Christos Mavrellis and departing Board Members Phidias Peleides, Maya Kleopa, and Dimitris Dimitriou.

During the handover ceremony, outgoing President Mr. Christos Mavrellis reflected on the Commission’s progress under his leadership, highlighting the high level of expertise within the organization and the international recognition it has received. He thanked the Commission’s staff for their dedication and conveyed his confidence in the new leadership to continue advancing its mission. Newly appointed President, Mr. Pieris Chourides thanked his predecessor for his invaluable contributions and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the Commission’s regulatory role. He outlined his vision for a robust and innovative regulatory authority that will continue to lead the way in the sector. Executive Director Mr. Harris Tsangarides also extended his appreciation to the outgoing President and Board Members for their multifaceted contributions and leadership. He welcomed the new President and Board Members and reaffirmed the staff’s commitment to maintaining high regulatory standards, ensuring a safe, transparent, and well-regulated gaming market in Cyprus.
